(Owner's report) The Inn of the Turquoise Bear is headquarters for gay visitors to Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico. Located close to the Plaza and all the major attractions of Santa Fe, the Inn is gay-owned, gay-operated, and gay-oriented. Surrounded by an acre of gardens and trees, this rambling adobe villa once belonged to Witter Bynner, who "set the standard for being gay in Santa Fe." Living here for more than 30 years with his lover, Robert Hunt, Bynner entertained countless celebrities in this house, including D.H. Lawrence, Ansel Adams, Igor Stravinsky, Rita Hayworth, Errol Flynn, Martha Graham, Willa Cather and Robert Frost. The Inn has 10 rooms, private baths, fireplaces, phones, cable TV, VCRs and a video library, fabulous breakfasts and a popular sunset social hour. The atmosphere is casual and congenial, with a clientele of mixed ages, and the emphasis is on genuine friendliness, camaraderie, and communication. Both couples and singles are welcome.
