Gay Retirement Communities/Homes A number of studies in the US and Europe amongst mainstream retirement care communities have shown that they are unaware or disinterested in the sexuality of their residents, and most deny having any gay men living in them. Gay people living in care communites are often subjected to verbal or physical harassment and prejudice - hence many have retreated to the closet. Thankfully that situation is changing and a number of communities are in existence or development which cater for mature gay people. So no longer will elderly gay people have to slam the closet door shut behind them just because they need assisted care.
