The Post
1705 Chancellor Street

The Post harkens back to a time where gay bars were hidden among
the shadows. The horseshoe-shaped bar is generally surrounded by
an older crowd of men enjoying good conversation and a relaxed mood.

Tel: (215) 545-0900
Cross Streets: Between Locust Street and Spruce Street
Tucked away on quiet Camac Street is one of the city's oldest gay bars. With
the piano manned every evening of the week, the Tavern always offers plenty of
show tunes, cocktails, merry conversation and gay banter. On Friday and Saturday
nights, a crowd of men sings along with the pianist and an occasional amateur
chanteuse. For those not in the mood for Broadway sing-alongs, a second-floor
bar offers alternative entertainment, from drag cabaret to disco dancing with
go-go boys. The Tavern regular is typically older and more sophisticated than
your average gay joe in Center City, as evidenced by the equal number of martini
glasses and beer bottles on the bar. But no matter who you are or what you drink,
if you enjoy this kind of music, pull a chair up to the piano, make a request
and hum your way through the evening.
Uncle's
1220 Locust Street,
Tel: (215) 546-6660
11am-2am
Philly’s favorite neighborhood gay bar in
the heart of the Gayborhood. This is the bar where gay men
sit and watch the world go buy with windows that open onto the street
in warm weather. If you're looking for a small, intimate and slightly
smoky spot, don't pass Uncle's by. And dress casually for a low-key
night. Mature clientelle with some younger guys.
Woody's Bar & Nightclub
202 S 13th St, Philadelphia 19107
Tel: 215-545-1893.
A venerable cruise and video bar with two floors and three
distinct areas for socializing, The interior isn't especially distinctive,
but you'll find every kinda guy at this place, which pulls in big
crowds every night of the week. The main bar at streetlevel tends
to draw an older, mellower, conversationally inclined bunch. This
leads to a second bar and then beyond that a relaxing coffeehouse,
where during warmer whether windows open onto the street - this
makes for enjoyable people-watching here in the Gayborhood. Enjoy
Country Western dancing Friday and Sunday evenings, and karaoke
on Mondays.

the bar is popular with men in the range of 35-60...friendly bartenders and waiters
and great food...basic stuff, nothing fancy. You will always get a consistently
good meal here that is affordable! The menu is in the price range of $9.95-$15.95
with your typical beef/chicken/fish fare. The salad dressings here are homemade
and if you like Blue Cheese---well---it's unbelievable!

A "Pittsburgh institution," acclaimed by many. Dark wood, loud music,
cruisy bar dead center. Some things never change, like this 40-year-old
neighborhood bar situated between two universities. This friendly
spot attracts men of a certain age, probably because there's no dancing
here, except for Wednesdays and Saturdays when topless go-go boys
add much to their gyrations. Great drink specials and all-you-can-eat
buffet on Tuesdays and Sundays. A quieter room in the back has a pool
table and another bar.
